An introduction to AussieBoys
AussieBoys was created in 2002 as a result of discussions going on between Australian Shepherd owners at the discussion lists Aussiepraat (for Aussiefanciers in Belgium and the Netherlands) and AussieGlobe (an international network for Aussiefanciers world wide). In several countries, breeders are facing restrictive breeding policies, for example a limited amount of matings per dog. These policies are expected to lead to a broader gene pool and a healthier breed in the future. On one hand, strict breeding policies can make things quite complicated for breeders. On the other, it can open doors to creative solutions. AussieBoys is meant to be such a creative solution: a database that offers a selection of quality males standing at stud in Europe.
Selection means that AussieBoys has already made a first selection for you. Only males that are older than 18 months with acceptable hip scores, cleared eyes, full dentition and no severe or disqualifying faults according to the breed standard can enter the database. Other tests are not compulsary to enter AussieBoys, but in case the elbows, hearing and/or temperament are tested as well, a male can only enter or stay in the database if he passed these tests with good results.
Quality is meant to be another keyword of AussieBoys. Quality is very hard to describe. For some people a quality dog is a good herding dog out of working lines. For others, a quality dog is a dog that scores well in conformation. AussieBoys leaves the decision what a quality dog is up to you. You know your male best. Only enter dogs into the database that you feel are quality dogs.
AussieBoys is based on honesty. It is impossible to verify all details supplied by the stud owners. The webmaster is operating under the assumption that all owners are submitting true information. AussieBoys offers no guarantees. It is the responsibility of the bitch owner to check if all information is correct and all health documents are valid and up to date. Please do your homework in order to find the best possible sire for your litter! Don't forget to contact the Aussie breed clubs in Europe to hear about their rules and ask for a helping hand.
